Recipes: Chocolate Meringue Pudding

For a small pudding use one pint of milk, two tablespoonfuls and a half of cornstarch, one ounce of Walter Baker & Co."s Chocolate, two eggs, five tablespoonfuls of powdered sugar, one-fourth of a teaspoonful of salt, and half a teaspoonful of vanilla extract. Mix the cornstarch with one gill of the milk. Put the remainder of the milk on to boil in the double-boiler. Scrape the chocolate. When the milk boils, add the cornstarch, salt, and chocolate, and cook for ten minutes. Beat the yolks of the eggs with three tablespoonfuls of sugar. Pour the hot mixture on this, and beat well. Turn into a pudding-dish that will hold about a quart, and bake for twenty minutes in a moderate oven. Beat the whites of the eggs to a stiff, dry froth, and gradually beat in the remaining two tablespoonfuls of sugar and the vanilla. Spread this on the pudding, and return to the oven. Cook for fifteen minutes longer, but with the oven-door open. Serve either cold or hot.

News of the day
Pickwicks Pub is the Local Hotspot in Woodland Hills
Pickwicks first opened its doors to the public in 1974 and it has been a San Fernando Valley landmark ever since.  The Pub has changed hands a few times but is now back in the hands of previous ownership that brought it to its peak.  Due to a tragic fire in 2005, the pub was unfourtunatley burned to the ground and had to close its door for the first time in 30 years.  The land owners and previous pub owners took back the decimated landmark and started the long process of rebuilding.  Craig and Lizz Holman, along with their children Robert, Kim, and Chris, spent countless hours doing the physical labor needed to bring this once iconic bar back to its previous glory.  Thanks to their efforts, the Pub reopened in March of 2006 just in time for St. Patty"s Day and a great grand opening celebration.  I"m happy to say the pub has now been open for over 2 years and continues to thrive, attracting new customers of all ages with its great selection of beer and alcohol, traditional British grub, and ever changing entertainers.
